Jozi Food Market launched on the 4th of October 2008 in the shaded parking area of the Parktown Quarter in Parktown North. The aim was twofold: To give specialty suppliers an outlet that was convenient to shoppers as well as to provide shoppers with great, homegrown and natural products. So much so that shoppers arriving to buy goats cheese found that the goats had come with, much to the delight of our many shoppers under 4. Johannesburgers are inordinately proud of our weather and this market provides another occasion where shoppers and their 4 footed friends can stroll around in the sun and then sit back and enjoy the shade with some home made lemonade (or a bowl of cold water if you are under knee high) and some delicious treats.
The market has two distinct shoppers: Those that are coming to stock up for the weekend and those that are coming to enjoy breakfast, coffee or lunch in the sun. We have no restaurants but loads of tables and benches in the shade and customers have been know to arrive with picnic baskets full of their own crockery and cutlery and Champagne, to be filled with produce from the market and enjoyed right there at one of the tables.
Jozi is a vibrant city, and is known for the fact that its people are busy and constantly on the move. It has certainly never been called sleepy hollow but this is a place to relax, taste some quality delights and bump into friends.
