The Jozi Food Market opens it’s doors to a new kind of designer flair on 5 June when it hosts Pulchritude: South African Designers at the Jozi Food Market.  This initiative sees the coming together of the founders of the Jozi Food Market and Sanlam Fashion Journalism Award winner, Milisuthando Bongela in an effort to make quality South African products available to Joburgers on a weekly basis of great value.

The first Pulchritude instalment takes place in Parktown North’s Design Quarter and features modestly priced fashion from some of the country’s top Ready To Wear designers including Black Coffee, Two, Loin Cloth and Ashes, Love Jozi, Silverspoon and an assortment of designer clothes from Cape Town’s Mememe boutique. There will also be accessories by Maria McCloy, who imports handmade wire jewellery from Lesotho and Durban’s Sara Trickett and her Lucky You accessories.

Pulchritude is the first wave of new developments the Jozi Food Market has in store for 2010.  The grand plan is to develop the market into a food, art and design market that will feature the good quality organic and designer products with the aim of harnessing the growth of emerging design in South Africa.

The idea is to start something new that will in future, attract more fashion and other kinds of designers who have limited distribution channels, while bringing in a new, younger clientele to the 18 month old food market. Expect to find top wines, local and imported cheese, gourmet soups and pizza’s and of course, organic fruit and vegetables and fresh flowers at the food market.  Champagne and wine will be served at the day-long sale, as well as breakfast and lunch.

The sale starts at the same time at the food market from 08.30am and ends a little later than usual at 17h00.  Prices for the clothes and accessories will range from R80 to R1500 and
Speedpoint/Saswich payment services as well as changing facilities will be
